Adding Photos to Your Question

If you haven't already, go back and read the top pinned topic, "Hello and Welcome - Help Us Help You Answer Your Questions" which contains invaluable information on getting help here on the Pottery, Glass & Porcelain Board.

To ask a question, click on the New Topic box near the top of the Board and a box will appear. Your cursor will flash in the Subject box. Write a brief descriptive title including item composition such as pottery, porcelain, or glass. (Example: "Pottery - What pattern is this Roseville vase?" or "Porcelain - Who made this Lady Figurine?" or "Glass - What pattern is this pressed glass bowl?")

Next click in the text box below the rows of icons and enter information about your item: measurements, color, shape, markings, etc. Please ask for help identifying your item before you list it. (Questions about current listings are not permitted by eBay as this is considered  "soliciting" and "auction interference.") Also, since valuation is subject to many factors such as condition, rarity, authenticity, etc., it is recommended that you determine the value of your item by checking eBay completed sales.

Adding Photos to Your Post

You can add photos to your New Topic either by using photos stored on your computer or by using URL images either self-hosted or by programs available online. Note: There are both free and fee-based photo hosting programs available on the web.

Adding Photos Stored On Your Computer

1. To add two photos stored on your computer, click on the Insert/Edit Image icon and an "Upload Image" box will open. The Insert/Edit Image icon is third from the right side in the second row of formatting icons. This icon looks like a black and white landscape and is located to the right of the yellow "smiley face" emoticon icon. (To use this feature, the photo must be in the .jpg format.) You can add additional photos later using the Reply feature.

IMPORTANT: Be sure that photos are oriented correctly - straight up, not sideways or upside down; are cropped so the background doesn't detract; and ALWAYS include a photo of the bottom even if the item is not marked.

2. In the "Upload Image" box, select the first tab, "From My Computer" and  "Select An Image," will open with a Browse box (Attachment 1 of 2.)

3. Click on the   Browse  box which takes you to your computer files. Select the photo you want to post and click on "Open." The location of the selected file appears in the Browse  box. Again, remember one of the photos should be of the bottom of the piece even if not marked.

4. Click the Add box. A spinning icon appears at the top in front of "Adding Attachment." In just a minute or two, your photo appears in the New Topic text box.

5.  Image width allowed size is 580 px. If your photo is too large, right click the photo and resize tools (8 squares around the photo) appear. Click on a corner box and, when a double-ended arrow appears, move it toward or away from the center of the photo to make it larger or smaller.  You may have to do this several times to ensure your picture is the appropriate size.

6. Repeat the Insert/Edit Image process to add the second photo. At this time, you can only add two photos per text box using the Insert/Edit Image process. You can add additional photos to aid in identification by using the Reply feature.

7. Click on Preview button before posting. This will allow you to see what your photo will look like when you post it to the board. You can use the Go back and Edit  button if you need to change or add information.

8. Click on the Post box at the bottom and it will appear on the board. (You can now add two additional photos each time you use the Reply feature.)

Tip:   Click on the arrow symbol in front of the Paperclip Icon to reveal two clickable images that will be larger than those shown in the post.

Adding Photos Using URL Hosted Images

1. To add multiple URL images, click on the Insert/Edit Image icon and an "Upload Image" box will open. The Insert/Edit Image icon is third from the right side in the second row of formatting icons. This icon looks like a black and white landscape and is located to the right of the yellow "smiley face" emoticon icon. (To use this feature, the photo can be in the .jpg, .gif or/png format.)

IMPORTANT: Be sure that photos are oriented correctly - straight up, not sideways or upside down; are cropped so the background doesn't detract; and ALWAYS include a photo of the bottom even if the item is not marked.

2. In the "Upload Image" box, select the third tab, "From The Web" with "Enter URL Image."

3. Enter the URL address of your image either from your hosted files or from an online program. Again, remember that one of the photos should be of the bottom of the piece even if not marked.

6. Repeat the Insert/Edit Image/From the Web process to add more photos.

7. Click on Preview button before posting. This will allow you to see what your photo will look like when you post it to the board. You can use the Go back and Edit  button if you need to change or add information.

8. Click on the Post box at the bottom and it will appear on the board.
